Who can apply
EPOs protect people in family relationships — including spouses and former spouses, adult interdependent partners, people who live or lived together in an intimate relationship, parents of a child together, and other relatives who live together. Police can also apply on your behalf, including after hours.
What an EPO can include
- No contact or communication with you and other family members
- Exclusive occupation of the family home, regardless of who owns it
- Police removal of the respondent from the home

After the order is granted
The order is served on the respondent, and the Court of King's Bench holds a review hearing within nine working days. Attend the hearing — the judge may confirm, change or revoke the order. Where longer protection is needed, the court can grant a King's Bench Protection Order.
